WE'RE A PASSIONATE COMPANY FILLED WITH PEOPLE who are Crazy ABOUT WASHINGTON WINE
Shaw Vineyards is a progressive, family owned company with a history of integrity, sustainability, and excellence spanning nearly four decades. We produce award winning wine grapes and wines from 100% estate grown grapes. Our vineyard team manages over 3,000 acres of vineyards which supply wine grapes to over 50 wineries in Washington and throughout the United States. We grow the highest quality wine grapes and deliver pristine fruit at peak ripeness to our winery owners.
Beyond vineyard operations we are involved with our own wine brands Henry Earl Estate Wines and Russell Creek Winery, both located in Downtown Walla Walla. Additionally, we are partners in J & S Crushing, a 24,000-ton custom crush facility in Mattawa, WA. Most recently, we established the Shaw Island Event Center in the Puget Sound, a venue for weddings, receptions, and wine-related events.
Dick and wendy shaw
In 1981 Dick Shaw, would follow his parent’s path of hard work and entrepreneurship by planting his first 100 acres of vines near Mattawa. At the time of this first planting DIck had no previous farming experience, having previously worked at a Tacoma mill on a glue gang, and in 1969 starting a public corporation which built apartment buildings. Taking a chance on a new business venture (vineyards) would prove to be an excellent choice for Dick.
Dick and Wendy met and together they planted 900 additional acres of vines on the Wahluke Slope, and Wendy started a custom vineyard harvesting business, West Harvesting. With this harvesting company she was able to harvest all of Shaw Vineyards and the surrounding vineyards. She still owns eight harvesting machines today but leaves the strenuous business of harvest to the younger generations. The Shaws currently harvest all of their own vineyards and provide custom harvesting options for other vineyard owners.
The Shaws now own more than 3000 acres planted in eastern Washington, which include about 450 acres on Red Mountain AVA. Their vineyards include partnerships with Quintessence and Obelisco Vineyards, also on Red Mountain. In 2014, Dick and Wendy brought their love of Washington’s wines to the heart of downtown Walla Walla in the historic 1879 Kennedy building. It was there they opened Henry Earl Estates to honor their fathers, Henry Shaw and Earl West.
Dick still oversees all aspects of the business, continuing to plant more grapes. As he nears 80-years-old, he has no plans of slowing down.

He oversees Quintessence and Shaw vineyards on Red Mountain, regarded in the top tier of Washington vineyards.
